Ganges delta is also known as Bengal Delta and Sundarban Delta. Ganges delta is situated in the south Asian region of Bengal, this also consists the state of west Bengal and Bangladesh. Ganges delta is the world’s largest Delta. Ganges delta empties in Bay of Bengal. Ganges Delta is world’s most fertile region, so it is also named as Green Delta. Ganges delta is also named as Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta. This delta ranges approx 350km at the Bay of Bengal. The principal seaports on Ganges delta are Mongla in Bangladesh and Kolkata and Haldia in India.



Gangotri is a Hindu pilgrim in the states of Uttrakhand in India. Gangotri is situated on the height of 3042m in greater Himalayas. Gangotri is the origin of The River Ganges. Gangotri is one of the char Dhams in the pilgrimages in India. The River Ganges is named Bhagirathi near the source. Gangotri can be reached from one days travel from Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar. It’s a two day journey from Yamunotri which is another pilgrim of the Char Dham circuit. Gangotri is a highly visited holy place by hindus from all over the world.



Haridwar is a holy city of India. The meaning of the name Haridwar is, Gateway to Hari or Dwar of Hari. After Gaumukh The River Ganges enters to Haridwar in the northern region. So Haridwar is said to be Gangadwara. Haridwar is the place where drops of Amrit spilled from the pitcher and is carried by the bird Garuda. King Bhagirath (an ancestor of Rama) brought The River Ganges from heaven. He brought The River Ganges for salvation of his 60,000 ancestors. Tradition is still continued today to bring the ashes of the departed family members. Lord Vishnu left his footprint on the upper wall of Harki Pauri in Haridwar. The impressive Aarti on the ghats of Harki Pauri occur every day. Haridwar is the first most town where the river Ganges touches the plains from the mountains. It is the place of intense religious significance, so this city celebrates many religious festivals throughout the year. Popular festivals are Gughal Mela, Kavad Mela, Ganga Dashara, and Somvati Amavasya Mela. The most famous among this is Kumbh ka Mela which occurs every twelve year. This Mela is celebrated when Jupiter comes into the sign Aquarius. In the 1998 Mela about 80 million people took a holy dive in the river Ganges.
